The 4KH1-TC engine uses a gear timing system. The gear timing system has the following advantages:

The crank gear (30 teeth) has a timing mark " " corresponding to the intermediate gear A.

Intermediate gear A

The intermediate gear A is a gear that transmits a rotational force to the intermediate gear B and the cam gear. The bearings are supplied with oil through a hollow shaft.

It has a timing mark ":" corresponding to the timing mark on the camshaft gear; and ":" corresponding to the timing mark on the intermediate gear B; and " " corresponding to the timing mark on the crank gear.

The number of teeth of the intermediate gear A is 42.

Intermediate gear B

The intermediate gear B is a scissor gear that is mounted to a shaft.

It has a timing mark "-:" corresponding to the timing mark on the intermediate gear A, and a "--" corresponding to the fuel pump gear.

The number of teeth of the intermediate gear B is 52.

The intermediate gear B is characterized by two scissor gears.

The rear scissor gear eliminates the gap between the intermediate gear A and the pump gear.

The scissor gear consists of a main gear, a sub gear, a pin and an elliptical spring.

The pin is fixed to the main gear and the sub gear, and an elliptical spring is placed between the pins.

When installing the scissor gear, the main and sub gears must be secured with a compressed spring.

The intermediate gear A and the intermediate gear B must be fixed by bolts.

The cam gear must be bolted and positioned with a single key.

After the scissor gear is installed, remove the release spring from the bolt.

Under this condition, the main gear and the sub gear are opened by the spring tension between the gear pairs to reduce the gap to zero.

Fuel pump gear

The fuel pump gear is fixed to the fuel pump with a central bolt and is positioned on the fuel pump shaft by a key. The fuel pump pulley has a timing mark "--" corresponding to the timing mark on the intermediate gear B.

The fuel pump has a gear count of 60.

When the inspection hole cover is removed, two or three different timing marks on the gear can be seen.

To check or position the timing gear, you can use the inspection hole on the timing gear chamber.

In general, these inspection holes are sealed by a cover. When you remove the cover, you can see the second mark of the gear. These markers are used to position the timing without removing the relevant components of the timing gear chamber.


When aligning the timing gear with the mark in the above figure, you must rotate the crankshaft to the top dead center and check the timing through the inspection hole. Top dead center can be identified by the markings on the crankshaft pulley and the timing gear chamber.
